The Finish Line

Was it the first time you entered a foot race?  Did it inspire you to walk or run?  Was it the place you met your significant other?  Did you consider it your official kick-off to summer?  Was it the place you did your personal best time?  Or maybe every time a certain song came on the radio it took you back to the best street party in Downriver?  The answer to all these might just be the Zanglin Downriver Run.

Sad but true, this will be the final year for the Zanglin Downriver Run which celebrated it’s 25th anniversary on Friday night, June 15 in Downtown Trenton.  Race Chairman Jim Zanglin and his race committee are retiring from this labor of love they did for the past 15 years.  Through its beginning as the Downriver Treadmill Run, this event promoted exercise and showed just how much fun it could be.  There have been many people who started out as spectators and began training for the following year’s event.

Each year the Zanglin Downriver Run was able to donate proceeds from the race to charities.  This year a portion of the race proceeds will be donated to a fundraising effort called Smiles for Sophie.  Sophie is a beautiful four year old who is suffering from a pediatric brain tumor and is in desperate need of money to pay medical bills.
